Prepare a PNG that remains clear at small sizes

Use a square source with a simple silhouette, strong contrast and enough space around the main mark. Fine lettering and photographic detail can look good at 512 pixels but disappear when a browser displays the favicon at 16 pixels.

A transparent PNG is useful when the mark should adapt to different browser colors. Test the smallest icon on both light and dark backgrounds, and consider adding a deliberate background shape when the artwork otherwise loses contrast.

  • Recommended source: square PNG
  • Useful source size: 512 × 512 pixels or larger
  • Keep important artwork away from the outer edge
  • Avoid thin lines and long text at favicon scale

Download a practical favicon package

The generated ZIP includes favicon.ico with small browser-tab sizes, an Apple touch icon, 192-pixel and 512-pixel PWA icons, and a web app manifest. These outputs cover the common places where websites display an identifying mark.

Generating several sizes from one source keeps the visual identity consistent, but every output should still be inspected. Automated resizing cannot fix a source that contains too much detail for a tiny browser tab.

Install the files and verify their URLs

Upload the extracted files to stable public paths and reference them from the document head or manifest. Open each final URL directly after deployment; a correct icon linked from the wrong location will still fail to appear.

Browsers cache favicons aggressively. When replacing an existing package, verify the network response or use a fresh browser profile before concluding that the new icon was not deployed.
