Use 200 KB as a maximum file size

After you choose a file, the tool tries to produce the highest-quality WebP or JPG that does not exceed 200 KB. The result may be noticeably smaller when the source is already optimized or contains large areas of similar color.

A target is a ceiling rather than a request to add data. Making a 70 KB image exactly 200 KB would not improve its source detail, so the compressor keeps an efficient result instead of padding the file.

Balance dimensions against image quality

Reducing quality keeps the original width and height but can introduce ringing, banding or smeared detail. Reducing dimensions removes pixels but can look cleaner when the destination displays the image at a modest size. The tool starts with quality and scales only when necessary.

For a web card shown around 600 pixels wide, retaining a 4000-pixel camera source provides no visible benefit. Resizing to a suitable delivery width before or during compression can produce a clearer 200 KB image than extreme quality reduction.

Verify the downloaded file, not only the preview

The result panel reports the generated file size, but the final check should use the downloaded file. Open it locally, confirm its format and inspect important details at the size where it will be used.

Keep the original separately. A compressed delivery file is intended for uploading or publishing and should not replace the master image used for future edits, printing or larger layouts.
